I need to remember this character/idea, just incase.
Nurse: Let him sleep. He needs to build back his energy.
Girl: I know... I just want to make sure that he will be okay.
Nurse: He'll be fine if you just relax and let him rest. It was just a little accident, that's all.
Girl: A car flipping off the road and crashing into a tree isn't a little accident! Just look at him, he looks like he could die any second!
Nurse: Dear, there have been worse accidents. It's a miracle that he wasn't killed. He's doing very well for a person in that situation.
Girl: ...Yes.
Nurse: I'll be back in a little while to check on him. (She begins to exit, carrying out a chart)
Girl: Ma'am?
Nurse: (Turns around to girl) Yeah?
Girl: Do you think you could bring a ginger ale? Just incase he wakes up?
Nurse: I'm pretty sure he won't be awake anytime soon, but yeah, I'll bring some.
Girl: Thank you. (She looks over at the Boy, and holds onto his hand.)
Nurse: Mhm. (She exits)
Girl: (She strokes his hand, looking down at it, then looks at his face. It is covered with dried blood still, though he looks to be at peace.) Mark... I'm scared. You look so terrible... (She takes out a small rag and licks it, and tries to wipe off some blood.) They keep telling me that you're going to be all right, but... what if you aren't? What will happen to me?
Mark: ...Egh...
Girl: (surprised, softly) Mark?
Mark: (He shifts his body a little) Ow..
Girl: No, no. Don't move too much, you're still in a lot of pain. Here. (She gets up and reaches for a towel on a side table, and places it on his forehead) You're okay, babe. You're okay...
Mark: Ah... Jean? What... what happened...?
Jean: Just a.. little accident. Nothing more. You're just a little banged up, that's all.
Mark: I don't.. get it... (He cringes in pain.)
Jean: Shh.. just try not to move. (She holds onto his hand)
Mark: hmm.. (He falls back to sleep.)
Jean: Ah.. oh. (She starts to stroke his hand again, and she puts her head to his hand. She begins to cry softly.) I just... Oh, how could I?
Nurse: (walks in with more charts, and sees Jean. She seems concerned) Oh, darling, what's wrong? He's not dead, see? His heart monitor is still beeping.
Jean: No, its not because he's dead! (She begins to sob harder) I-I d-didn't know.. wha-what t-t-to...
Nurse: Now, darling, calm down. (She reaches over to the table and picks up a box of tissues, handing it to Jean) Breath in deeply, and try to relax.
Jean: (Breathing in a wavy breath, then exhales another outpour of tears) I-I feel awful! I-I... (She tries again, succeeding this time.) I.. I lied to h-him.
Nurse: (Confused) You what, darling?
Jean: I lied to him! (Another verge of tears begins to form) I-I told him that h-he was o-okay a-and that, that he was j-just in an accid-dent..
Nurse: What? You didn't lie to him! He's going to be fine! Look at him, he's--
Jean: Bullshit he's gonna be fine! Just look at him! He looks like he was mauled by a bear!
Nurse: Now you listen here! Just because he looks all busted up doesn't mean he isn't gonna make it! A boy his age is built to last, look. He doesn't have any major problems besides a few broken ribs and an arm... and a leg. And a minor fracture in his skull...
Jean: You're not helping!
Nurse: But it's all nothin' that can't be fixed..! (Jean sits down, looking longingly at Mark. The Nurse sighs, then remembers the ginger ale) Here, sweetie.
Jean: (She takes the ginger ale and sets it on the table. There is an awkward silence as the Nurse writes down some things onto her charts.) Ma'am?
Nurse: Hmm?
Jean: Do you know how long it will take for him to recover?
Nurse: Well, a good month at least. We're lucky that he only broke some bones and nothing more serious.
Jean: Do you think he'll be alright by October?
Nurse: Depends on what you mean by alright.
Jean: Enough to be able to dance?
Nurse: Well, he'll be able to walk with some crutches by mid September at the latest.. But I don't know if he'll be able to dance by October.
Jean: What do you mean? I thought he only broke his leg?
Nurse: He'll have to go through some physical therapy to get back in shape. He wont be doing flips anytime soon, more or less October.
Jean: Well.. there goes our routine then.
Nurse: You two are dancers?
Jean: Yeah. We were supposed to do a big show in New York for a week in October, but... I guess not now.
Nurse: Hmm.. How does this sound. If he recovers very quickly, and does well in physical therapy, then he might have a chance. He may be in pain after dancing, but he may be able too.
Jean: Really? That's good to hear.
Nurse: Mmhm.
